Bootcamp Programs
Our bootcamp style training programs are very popular amongst our clients. We have several different types of ‘bootcamp’ training that are personalized
for you and your dog depending on the problems you are experiencing and the goals you wish to achieve. Additionally, owners who have less up front time to
work through training issues, are faced with a particularly difficult problem or are perhaps a overwhelmed by the training process may find bootcamp a
beneficial program for them and their dog. At Sunny Dog Place we can help. We have several types of programs that can help owners achieve their training
goals and improve their relationship with their dog such as:
- Obedience: basic commands and leash skill such as: sit, down, stay, come, heel. Daily and overnight programs are available.
- General Problem Solving: such as unruliness, jumping, leash pulling, unwanted barking, housebreaking, running away, disobedience, etc. Socialization for dogs that are timid, rambuncious or fearful.
- Behavioral: more difficult problems such as anxiety, dog to dog aggression, human aggression, food/toy aggression are worked on during training with successful results in the vast majority of dogs.
-
Off Leash: after a dog has mastered basic commands and leash skills an off leash training program can be developed for you and your dog. Dogs can be trained to come to their owners reliably in off leash situations around everyday distractions.
All bootcamp or board & train dogs must first be evaluated by one of our trainers with the owner/handler present, no exceptions. There is no charge for our initial evaluation if done at our facility.
All dogs that participate in our bootcamp or board & train program will receive a write up specific to your dog and it’s behavior(s) and proposed solutions.
Lessons are scheduled at our facility during the training to help owners learn to handle their dogs. At the end of the dog’s stay the dog is then turned back
over to the owner at our facility or home depending on the situation. The turnover session consists of a 1.0-1.5 hour private training session with the owner(s)
and we are happy to work with the entire family.
Bootcamp Training Solutions
Obedience & Problem Solving Bootcamp
If you wish your dog was better behaved or more willing to perform basic obedience commands then our Obedience & Socialization Bootcamp also known as our
Board & Train program may be the best training solution for you and your dog. Upon initial evaluation of your dog and training needs we will design a program
which will help you gain better control of your dog and teach your dog all the important basics: sit, down, stay, heel and walking properly on a leash. We can
also work on problem behaviors such as leash pulling/lunging, jumping and puppy biting. Your dog will stay at our facility which is supervised 24/7.
Length of Time:
Based on our experience a minimum of a 14-21 day stay to make a noticeable improvement in your dog’s behavior. The length of stay can be extended depending
on the needs of the dog and the owner. An evaluation with one of our trainers is required to make sure that the obedience and socialization bootcamp is the
right choice for you and your dog. The evaluation is complimentary if done at our facility and takes about 30-45 minutes.
Best Suited For:
Dogs with minor to moderate obedience and behavior problems or owners who are planning a vacation or just don’t have the up front time required to teach their dog
all the important basic commands.
Cost:
Bootcamp pricing depends on the depth of the dog/owner’s problem on the length of time the dog needs to stay to obtain improvement. Your complimentary evaluation at
our facility will determine whether our bootcamp option is the appropriate solution and cost will be discussed at that time.
Bootcamp for Dog to Dog and/or Human Aggression
For dogs with problems which cannot be easily managed in the home either because of dangererous behavior (aggression) or inability of the owner
(for any number of reasons such as disabilities, children, time constraints etc.) bootcamp is often the best solution. Dogs are under the direct
management of a trainer and kept at our Sunny Dog Place facility in an appropriate environment.
The typical behavioral bootcamp stay lasts anywhere from 30-45 days. Your dog’s stay may last longer due to the severity of the problem,
learning curve of the dog, breed of dog, past experiences and most importantly commitment of the owner. We are solution oriented trainers and handlers
and make every effort to give you an honest evaluation of your dog and help you implement solutions that will work in your situation. Reintroduction
into the home environment is done carefully, instructing the owners in the procedures for maintaining the new behaviors, with weekly follow up in person
and/or phone sessions.
The price of the bootcamp is a fixed based on the initial scope of the problems presented to us at the time of evaluation. If you are a bootcamp client who
follows through with your prescribed training program and our training solutions do not seem to stick we will continue to bootcamp your dog to get a handle
on the problem behaviors. Upon a trainer and client’s agreement that a dog needs to reenter the bootcamp program we will make every effort to accommodate
follow up bootcamp sessions as soon as possible.
